Freedom of religion is at stake. A new bill proposed by Teal MP Allegra Spender is a direct attack on Christian schools and their ability to choose staff who uphold the Christian faith and to build a school culture predicated on Christian values.

Allegra Spender says the bill will remove “discrimination based on sexuality, gender or marital status at religious schools”.

But what would this mean in practice for schools seeking to uphold their religious convictions?

Christian schools will face restrictions on their ability to hire only staff who adhere to the Christian teaching that sexual activity is only permitted within a monogamous heterosexual marriage.

In other words, they will no longer be allowed to employ only faithful Christians. Schools will also no longer be free to teach a Biblical understanding of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

This will signal the beginning of the end of Christian schools in this country. The prolific Catholics Schools system will also be forced to buckle to this religious edict of Allegra Spender and the intolerant left.

This is about more than schools. It is about the fundamental right of Australian families to choose an education for their children that reflects their religious beliefs and values.

This bill needs the support of the Labor government to pass. We urgently need to make our voices heard now.

Please sign our petition to the Prime Minister and contact your local MP, urging them to oppose the bill and defend the right of Christian schools to uphold their religious convictions.

To the Prime Minister of Australia,

We call on the Australian Labor Government to oppose Allegra Spender’s proposed bill restricting the rights of faith-based schools to uphold their religious beliefs in their teaching, staffing and school culture.

Parents must be free to choose schools that reflect their faith, and religious schools must be able to maintain their distinctive religious identity and values.

We urge the Prime Minister to protect religious freedom, freedom of conscience and freedom of expression by ensuring faith-based schools can continue to educate children in accordance with their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Labor must oppose this bill and save our faith-based schools.
