Hoyts does not want you seeing this.
A private screening of It’s a Girl, a documentary exposing the reality of over 100 million missing women and girls worldwide, has been cancelled. Not by the government, and not because it breaks any law, but by a corporation that has decided it can determine what Australians are allowed to watch.
This film has no classification restriction under Australian law. Any Australian can legally view it. Yet Hoyts claims it violates their “brand values.”
That does not add up.
This is the same company that screens films filled with extreme violence, graphic sexual content and explicit material. Films like Terrifier 3 and Babygirl raised no concerns. But a documentary was enough to be shut down.
This is not about content. It is about control.
In many parts of Australia, when Hoyts refuses to screen a film, there are no real alternatives. When they block something, it disappears.
If they can cancel this, they can cancel anything.
We have seen this before. Event Cinemas reversed a similar decision after public pressure. Hoyts will be no different if enough people speak up.
If we stay silent, this becomes the standard.
Sign the petition and demand that Hoyts reverse this decision, screen the film, and apologise.
