Hope's Story

On Wednesday 23 July, the ABC published a story targeting Catholic hospitals because they do not perform abortions unless to save the mother’s life.

The story centred around the experience of Elyssa and Brent who shared their story of “pain” and “trauma” after being turned away from an abortion because of a serious genetic condition.

The story relied solely on pro-abortion voices: an anonymous abortionist-obstetrician from another hospital, pro-abortion academic Dr Erica Millar and a representative from Australia’s leading pro-abortion lobby group Children by Choice.

What the story omitted was the baby’s story.

From the ABC report we can surmise these details of the baby:

  • Her name was Hope.
  • She had a serious, but not life-threatening genetic condition.
  • She was older than 14 weeks when she was killed and that the abortion occurred close to the cut off for an abortion on request in Queensland (which is 22 weeks).
  • An attempt was made to stop Hope’s heart between 12 and 14 weeks but it failed through a chemical abortion.
  • After surviving the first attempt on her life, Hope was finally killed through a surgical abortion, most likely a Dilation and Evacuation abortion in which the baby is dismembered and pulled out of the womb in parts.
