Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that he is urgently seeking to pass legislation in October this year that will shut down free speech on social media.

His new “Digital Duty Of Care” will force social media companies like Meta and X to comply with a positive obligation to monitor and remove harmful content in order to address “algorithm-driven anxiety and the rise of populism exemplified by One Nation”. The proposed duty of care will force platforms and messaging services to identify risks of “harm” and take active steps to prevent them. 

Albanese wants to make this his legacy: destroying free speech once and for all. 

We cannot allow this to happen. Our country and our freedom is at stake.

Albanese knows if he shuts down free speech on social media, he controls the narrative and anyone who opposes the political establishment such as our movement or One Nation, will have no means to reach everyday Australians directly with the truth.

Albanese will say this is about protecting our mental health and removing harmful content that contains misinformation and disinformation.

Do not believe the lie. His digital duty of care is about shutting down free speech on social media so that you and I cannot say what we think or share posts that expose the truth.

We have one month to stop this horrific bill becoming law.

We, the undersigned, condemn and oppose Albanese and Labor’s proposed digital duty of care that will force social media companies to remove posts and comments that are deemed harmful. This digital duty of care cannot be amended or improved. It must be scrapped in its entirety. Free speech is foundational to our Australian democracy.
